T4SM Chairperson Gregor Beiner represented the taxi sector at think-tank CERRE‘s event “Regulating Transport on Demand in the EU” on 6 December 2021. He stressed the importance of local regulations in urban mobility.

The event took place to discuss the outcomes of CERRE’s latest mobility report ‘Transport on Demand: How to regulate ride-hailing in the EU?‘ with mobility stakeholder organisations.

Following a presentation of the report and its recommendations, CERRE Director General Bruno Liebhaberg moderated a discussion amongst representatives from both traditional and new forms of mobility, clean transport campaigners, and European local and regional authorities.

“We have to remember that although we are one united Europe, we have very diverse societies with different situations in different countries and cities. Therefore we need to keep regulations local with the expertise of local authorities.” – Gregor Beiner, T4SM Chairperson

Pedro Homem de Gouveia is a Senior Policy & Project Manager at Polis, a network of European cities and regions working together to develop innovative technologies and policies for local transport. He argued that in case of possible EU regulations, the main goals should be clear and the approach should not be top-down, for regional and local authorities to have a front seat in these discussions.
