On June 29th, Taxis for Smart Mobility (T4SM) hosted a high-level event on “Electrifying Urban Transport: Taxis as A Catalyst for Change“.

The aim of this event, taking place immediately after the EU Sustainable Energy Week, was to provide a high-level discussion, including sharing of best practices from various stakeholders as well as policy approaches to ensure that the future of mobility can be sustainable, innovative, socially responsible and safe at European and local level.

The event started with a breakfast, which was followed by an introduction by Sean Goulding Carroll and a panel discussion with speakers Dario Dubolino, Policy Officer at European Commission‘s DG MOVE, Lucie Mattera, Secretary-General at ChargeUp Europe, Stasa Mrdovic, Passenger Transport Manager at IRU, and Gregor Beiner, Chair of Taxis 4 Smart Mobility. The panel was moderated by Sean Carroll, Transport Editor at EURACTIV.

We can happily say that the event was a success! The discussions delved into the pivotal role of taxis, the largest fleet in Europe, in driving the transition to greener mobility by raising awareness of the benefits of e-mobility. Our high-level speakers agreed that a lot can be done at the European level to prioritise taxis as ‘corporate fleets’ – while the decarbonisation of taxis as part of mobility are ultimately to be found at local level. If we look beyond electrification as the unique solution to reduce CO2 emissions, we can unlock a combination of measures that could multiply the overall decarbonisation impact.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the panel discussion and networking breakfast!
